To answer this question; and basing the answer on the Holy Bible being true; if you read Luke 3, it tells how John the Baptist was preaching a baptism of repentance for forgiveness of sins as according to the prophet Isaiah. In verse 15 and 16 it says that the people were waiting and wondering if he was possibly the Christ that the prophets had spoken of. John answers this by saying ‘‘I baptise you with water, but one more powerful than I will come, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.’’ Jesus went to be baptised also and as he prayed, heaven opened, the Holy Spirit rested on him in bodily form like a dove and a voice from Heaven came saying ‘You are my Son, whom I love: with you I am well pleased’.
In Mark 8:27-33, Jesus himself asked his disciples a vital question – Who do men say that I am and who do you say that I am? People then, as now, had all kinds of opinions on who Jesus was however all agreed that He was a great teacher or even a mighty man of God, even being compared with the greatest of the prophets, John the Baptist, Elijah, and Jeremiah. It was Peter who was the first apostle to recognize Jesus as the Anointed One (Messiah and Christ). Christ is the Greek word for the Hebrew word Messiah, which means Anointed One
